K-State’s all-female team took second place in the national financial planning competition hosted by the Financial Planning Association

“Megan, Britta and Ana represent the first all-female team to run from the K-State and one of the first to run nationally,” said Martin Seay, director of personal financial planning. “The team’s performance is strong evidence of women’s success in financial planning. Although the number of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ professionals has increased significantly across the country, women still make up only 23% of the workforce.”

“This is really a feather in K-State’s hat for the PFP program,” said PFP Advisory Board Member and Advisors Excel Chief Operating Officer Mike Miller. “We work with independent financial experts from across the country and see firsthand the shortage of minorities and women in this profession. For this reason, we have invested in PFP grants to specifically address this problem. “

Each year, the financial planning competition provides students with a holistic financial planning learning experience and increases awareness of the professional community and organizations that support the profession. The challenge is carried out in three phases. In phase one, the students receive profiles for two hypothetical customers and draw up a comprehensive financial plan. Eight teams are then selected to move on to phase two, which is an oral presentation of a case study. The final stage is the “How do you know?” Danger-style challenge.

The Financial Planning Association (FPA®) is the premier professional organization for Certified Financial Planners (CFP®), educators, financial service providers, and students looking to advance in a growing, dynamic profession.
