India and US Announce Program to Address Climate and Clean Energy Challenges

New Delhi: A program to support science and technology-based entrepreneurship between India and the US to address climate and clean energy challenges was announced on Friday.

The program, entitled “Technology-Based Energy Solutions: Innovations for Net Zero”, will address the development and implementation of next-generation clean and renewable energies, energy storage and carbon sequestration, according to a statement from the Ministry of Science and Technology.

It was a call for ignition grants from the US-India Science & Technology Endowment Fund (USISTEF) in partnership with Social Alpha, a nonprofit that promotes S&T entrepreneurship, it said.

The program will identify and support “technology showstoppers” or promising joint Indian-American S&T-based entrepreneurial initiatives in this area, the department said.

“Climate change is one of the greatest challenges our world is facing today and it calls for global cooperation to address this crisis.

“The launch of the US-India partnership under the 2030 Agenda for Climate and Clean Energy in April 2021 reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to work together to achieve their ambitious climate and clean energy goals and to strengthen bilateral cooperation”, It said, adding that the new program is in line with the goals of the US-India strategic partnership for clean energy and is being implemented by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), a bilateral organization of the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology Technology, and administered by the US Department of State.
