The Harold Hamm Foundation and Continental Resources announced a joint donation of $ 50 million on Wednesday to help found the Hamm Institute for American Energy at Oklahoma State University.

The Hamm Institute’s mission is to train the next generation of energy leaders – in Oklahoma, the United States and around the world – to cement Oklahoma’s legacy as a global energy leader.

“The generous donations from Harold Hamm and Continental Resources to found the Hamm Institute for American Energy will have a transformative impact on OSU and the energy sector worldwide. With a state-of-the-art laboratory with wells drilled under the building, an auditorium and classrooms, this building is well equipped for its purpose, ”said OSU President Kayse Shrum. “Mr. Hamm and Continental’s generosity will bring together the brightest minds and future energy leaders from around the world to resolve one of society’s most pressing concerns. Together we will change the path of energy security in the United States.”

Initial funding for the institute and project will be $ 50 million – $ 25 million from the Harold Hamm Foundation and $ 25 million from Continental Resources. The Hamm Institute will be located at the former OSU Discovery, 300 NE 9th St. in the Oklahoma City Innovation District and will be the primary occupant of the building.

The Hamm Institute becomes the center of American energy. It will host symposia, authors, speakers, energy summits and discussions on global energy leaders. The building will eventually house the Oklahoma Hall of Energy Legends Interactive Museum, a public exhibit that highlights the history and storied legacy of Oklahoma’s great energy leaders.

Born in Oklahoma and founder and chairman of Continental Resources, Hamm began his career in oil and gas over five decades ago with a single oil service truck and a dream. His incredible journey, entrepreneurship, and will to change the world for the better have inspired countless others, and his latest philanthropic initiative aims to take the state to both new and familiar heights.

Hamm is recognized as the national leader and staunch advocate of the domestic oil and natural gas industry in the United States. He has spent over five and a half decades in the industry, from starting his own oil services business to founding one of America’s most dynamic and innovative exploration and manufacturing companies, Continental Resources. His efforts have contributed to the well-being of every American and help secure the country’s energy and economic security. The Hamm Institute will ensure that America leads the world when it comes to driving innovation and technology while responsibly producing the energy we need for decades to come.

“It is time again for Oklahoma to become a world leader in energy. I hope the world will seek the best ideas from us in power management, research, and education. This gift is about investing in our common future – the future of our country and the state and the people I love, ”said Hamm. “I see the institute as a game changer – a place where the best and brightest come together to responsibly solve the world’s energy challenges. A third of the world’s population lives in energy poverty. We have to fix that. And we have to make sure that Americans will always have an abundance of reliable and affordable energy for generations to come. ”

“Oklahoma is a state of energy and Harold is our energy icon. This collaboration between one of our great universities and one of our most innovative and successful energy companies and entrepreneurs will raise the bar for American energy innovation, ”said Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt.

In recognition of Continental’s contributions, the hall and auditorium of the building will be referred to as the Continental Resources Concourse and the Continental Resources Auditorium. The program fund that supports the institute is also named after Continental.

“The Hamm Institute belongs here in Oklahoma. It is part of the Continental mission – to find, promote and inspire the next generation of energy suppliers. We envision that the Hamm Institute for American Energy will be the epicenter for learning, research and energy innovation for decades to come, ”said Bill Berry, CEO of Continental Resources.
