West Springfield offers tax breaks for seniors and military veterans

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The city of West Springfield has a senior / veteran tax work-off program for eligible city residents.

40 positions are available as part of the 2022 Tax Work-Off Program for Seniors / Veterans. Taxpayers must be a veteran, age 60 or older, registered owner of West Springfield property, and be the owner and resident of the residence.

Northampton offers a tax work-off program for seniors and veterans

Participants will work from March 1, 2022 through October 31, 2022 to receive a reduction on Fiscal Year 2023 property taxes (taxes billed on or after July 1, 2022). The maximum reduction allowed is $ 1,250. Current pay is calculated using the state minimum wage of $ 14.25 per hour. Participants must work approximately 88 hours and complete by October 31, 2022 to receive the full discount.

There are multiple positions including lawn / site maintenance, maintenance, veteran grave maintenance and park / facility attendant, as well as back office for some departments.

Interested seniors / veterans can pick up applications and information packages in the entrance hall of the municipal administration building, Hauptstraße 26, from January 3rd. Completed applications will be accepted from January 3, 2022. Completed applications must be accompanied by a copy of the applicant’s driving license and a copy of the most recent tax assessment. All participants must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and must submit proof of vaccination with their application.
