Evanoff was officially recognized at the Wawa Welcome America Festival in Philadelphia on July 4th, where the Freedom Celebration was held in front of Independence Hall. In addition to a trip to the festival for two, Evanoff received a check for $ 10,000 from Freedom Mortgage.
Evanoff, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with the Veterans Administration, was selected from nearly 1,000 entries for the Freedom Mortgage Celebrate Freedom Award. Evanoff, a U.S. Army veteran, also served as a firefighter and medic for the city of Omaha for 13 years before joining the VA. His dedication to the service inspired three of his children to serve in the U.S. military.

The Celebrate Freedom Award 2021, presented by the Freedom Mortgage competition, was open to all service members, veterans, and first-time first responders and healthcare workers. Participants submitted essays in which they answered the question, “What does it mean to you to serve the nation?”
