Santa Ana, CA (WorkersCompensation.com) – Assistant District Attorney Shaddi Kamiabipour of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) was named Prosecutor of the Year 2017 by the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud (CAIF) for her extensive work in prosecuting medical matters and fraud cases for workers’ compensation insurance. The award was presented at the CAIF Annual Meeting at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

CAIF is a non-profit alliance of insurers, consumer groups and government agencies that fight all forms of insurance fraud. Each year, CAIF honors prosecutors whose exceptional skills and professional dedication in fighting insurance fraud have earned the respect and admiration of prosecutors across the country. Kamiabipour, of the OCDA’s insurance fraud unit, has successfully prosecuted 55 defendants in massive insurance fraud cases, including the closure of a $ 40 million fraudulent medical billing and kickback operation that brought charges against 22 doctors, pharmacists and business owners . Kamiabipour has prosecuted numerous workers’ compensation fraud cases totaling over US $ 520 million.

“Shaddi’s assertive and successful pursuit of complex fraud rings is an example of the skill and perseverance we seek to show our annual award winner,” said Dennis Jay, CAIF executive director of communications.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas stated, “This award is tremendous recognition of the hard work and dedication Shaddi brings to each and every case she pursues. She is passionate about protecting consumers from fraudulent insurance crimes that negatively impact businesses and our economy. Shaddi has earned Prosecutor of the Year from the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.

“I am very honored to be honored with this prestigious award and share this award with all the members of the OCDA Insurance Fraud Unit who work tirelessly to help me prosecute these cases. It is not easy to meet people with political connections and hold on to financial resources. ” I would be remiss if I did not pay tribute to Public Prosecutor Tony Rackauckas, who supported our efforts to vigorously pursue these individuals and become a pioneer in this area of law, “said Kamiabipour.
