BC completes forestry retirement program

BC’s Bridging to Retirement Program, a program that helped more than 1,000 forest workers transition into retirement after the 2019 industry downturn, is coming to an end.

However, the BC government will continue the recruitment program through an online platform and three offices inside BC to help forest workers.

Funding to facilitate forest workers’ access to government services, training and employment agencies will continue to support workers affected by forest fires, labor shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic through March 2022.

According to the provincial government, 41 restricted or closed mills resumed operations last year, allowing 7,500 people to go back to work.
