J. Peter Pham promotes Africa’s leading role in the energy transition and strengthens partnerships between the USA and Africa at the African Energy Week in Cape Town
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA / ACCESSWIRE / August 20, 2021 / After several other international VIP confirmations, J. Peter Pham, the former US special envoy for the Sahel region of Africa, has confirmed his support and participation in the African Energy Week (AEW) in Cape Town in 2021. Focused on improving security and governance, social progress and economic development in Africa, Pham will promote U.S.-Africa partnerships and Africa’s role in the global energy transition in Cape Town and usher in a new wave of investment and bilateral cooperation .
With his tenure as U.S. special envoy for the Great Lakes region of Africa from 2018-2020 and as the first U.S. special envoy for the Sahel region in 2020, Pham played an instrumental role in coordinating relations between the U.S. government and African actors in -2021 . In addition, Pham is a strong advocate of the role of African resources in the global energy sector. Pham believes that the continent, with significant renewable and mining resources that can be exploited and exported in Africa, has a strategic role to play in promoting the global energy transition. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, for example, has about half of the world’s total cobalt reserves – an important part of rechargeable batteries. By promoting African renewable energies and minerals as a key factor in the global energy transition and emphasizing the value of African exports, Pham continues to advocate promoting not just the US’s role in Africa, but Africa around the world. At AEW 2021 in Cape Town, Pham will spread a powerful narrative about what African resources mean for the world and promote the fact that the continent will play a leading role in the energy transition.
“AEW 2021 welcomes all international stakeholders to come and get in touch with African partners. J. Peter Pham will be instrumental in facilitating not only the critical partnerships that drive Africa’s energy success, but also drives investment in African developments by emphasizing the continent’s role in the energy sector by introducing US policies, solutions and – Stakeholders in African markets, emphasizing integration and regional cooperation, Pham will help position Africa as a united and formidable force on the global energy arena. Africa will play a leading role in the energy transition and both Pham and AEW in 2021 aim to emphasize this, ”said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.
The story goes on
In the meantime, by attending AEW 2021 in Cape Town, Pham will be in direct contact with African stakeholders, governments and private sector executives and provide key insights into how the continent can drive regional cooperation and development. Pham’s extensive experience in both international relations and Africa makes him an expert on regional affairs, and by advancing a strong narrative about the value of cross-border integration as a key driver of economic growth, Pham will add to the regional narrative and emphasize unity and market-oriented policy.
A strong proponent of US-Africa partnerships, Pham will be promoting US strategic interests in Africa at AEW 2021 in Cape Town. Pham has years of experience in African affairs ranging from political and economic to social and recognizes the value of US cooperation with African states. The strong networking focus of AEW 2021 – with an emphasis on engagement, deal-making and transactions between all stakeholders and delegates – positions the conference as the leading platform for dialogue between the US and Africa. As many African countries are looking for international partners to expand their energy sectors and initiate sustainable economic growth, Pham’s participation in the AEW 2021 will enable the discussions to begin as he introduces potential partners, invites further cooperation and long-term bilateral agreements between the USA and Africa .
