As an entrepreneur who turned her start-up bank into one of the UK’s most promising financial technology companies, Anne Boden is a rarity. So rare, in fact, that the Starling Bank executive struggled to find people to guide them through their careers. “I’ve been matched with mentors in the past, but it has been difficult to find someone like me.”
She grew up in Swansea with a degree in computer science and was one of only a handful of young women to take part in a bank graduate trainee program at Lloyds where she was told she was too ambitious. People offered as role models tended to have “a different background, a different style”.
